During laparoscopic cholecystectomy, one of the common causes of biliary or vascular injuries is the lack of clear identification of the structures inside the hepatocystic triangle or even liver bed. In this video, we demonstrate carelessness and damage to the liver gallbladder bed sinusoid.
Sinusoids, small blood vessels between the radiating rows of hepatocytes, convey oxygen-rich hepatic arterial blood and nutrient-rich portal venous blood to the hepatocytes and eventually drain into the central vein, which drains into the hepatic vein. Injury to sinusoids may cause severe bleeding needing suturing to stope bleeding.
