Joint Press Conference with Pinal County Attorney's Office discussing "Operation Stranger Things," the juvenile sex crimes operation we conducted in Apache Junction at the beginning of January.Press Release Recap:On January 10th and 11th, the Apache Junction Police Department conducted a multi-agency operation targeting adult online predators seeking to engage in illicit sexual activities with children in the City of Apache Junction. The operation aimed to identify and apprehend predators and prevent and deter illegal sex-related activities with potential minor victims. The two-day operation resulted in 14 suspects being arrested for over 39 sexual-related felony crimes. Firearms and illicit drugs were also seized during the operation.Sexual exploitation of children affects communities everywhere, including those in Apache Junction. None of the individuals involved were from within the Apache Junction city limits; they traveled here specifically to commit crimes, underscoring the importance of remaining vigilant. Law enforcement understands the deep concerns parents and caregivers have for their children’s safety, especially in a world where online anonymity can facilitate such crimes. We encourage everyone to be actively involved in their children’s online activities. By asking questions and utilizing available child protection resources, we can work together to create a safer environment for our kids and help prevent them from becoming targets of exploitation. To learn more about starting a conversation with your child, visit https://www.apachejunctionaz.gov/1175/Child-Internet-Safety. #AJPD | Apache Junction Police Department
