Show: Grease Song: “We Go Together” The 68th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade was held on November 24, 1994, in New York City and shown to viewers live on NBC that same day from 9 a.m. to noon EST. The broadcast was hosted by Willard Scott and Katie Couric. The lineup featured 16 giant helium balloons, 21 novelty balloons, 19 floats, 13 marching bands, a host of musical stars, and the one-and-only Santa Claus. Grease is a 1971 musical with music, lyrics, and a book by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. Named after the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as greasers and set in 1959 at the fictional Rydell High School in Northwest Chicago (based on Taft High School in Chicago, Illinois, and named after rock singer Bobby Rydell), the musical follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, politics, personal core values, and love. After 20 previews, a Broadway revival directed and choreographed by Jeff Calhoun premiered on May 11, 1994, at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre, where it ran for 1,505 performances. The opening cast included Ricky Paull Goldin (Danny), Susan Wood (Sandy), Rosie O’Donnell (Rizzo), Sam Harris (Doody), Hunter Foster (Roger), Megan Mullally (Marty), and Billy Porter (Teen Angel).
